With Disney+ Day coming to an end it’s easy to remember just why I adore cinema so much. I don’t think I feel excitement in day to day life like I do when a new TV show or movie I’m particularly interested in is officially announced, especially after months of rumours and theories.

There wasn’t much this year I was particularly looking forward to, I’m not a fan of Star Wars, I was one of the few 00’s kids who wasn’t bought up on A Diary of a Wimpy Kid. However, even with so much I cared very little about I still found myself turning Disney’s twitter notifications on, scrolling the thread and being excited for those who like what I don’t.

There’s something so pure about genuine excitement, and I think media in general is one of the easiest ways to showcase this. Whether is be the biggest blockbuster or a new hit single. We form groups surrounding these things that other people make, and we claim them as our own. A director will always say their movie is made for the audience, audience satisfaction being the most important part of marketing and making a project succeed.

There were still projects in Disney+ Day that got me anxious with anticipation. The main one being Marvel’s Agatha: House of Harkness. WandaVision was something so special to me, a show so elegantly shot, with incredible performances, a gripping and traumatic plot, and so much thought and work put into each era aesthetic. I don’t think Marvel can beat the fan response to WandaVision. There was an uproar of theories and lively chatter. I remember my family discussing how they didn’t particularly like it, because it wasn’t superhero-y enough. And I remember me arguing that point, that the fact it’s not full of action and fighting is why it’s so successful. Marvel have branched out into a new platform with a completely new, never done before idea. And it was done perfectly and it added so much to the universe. And with that, I can’t help but be jittery at the thought of a spin off.

The Baymax series, disenchanted, rescue rangers. So many upcoming projects that spark the kid in me. Disney seems to have a way with pulling all audiences in, gripping to your nostalgia and pulling you under. Olaf Presents was released today, along with Ciao Alberto, shorts (a media form I don’t usually watch) that I put time aside to watch. Ciao Alberto was just as charming and adorable as Luca itself was, by the time the credits rolled I couldn’t help but wish for more from that universe.

It’s no surprise that I look for the Marvel in everything I can, today was no different. Along with House of Harkness, Marvel announced Marvel’s Zombies, Echo and Spider-Man Freshman. All storylines I know next to nothing about, but ones I’m more than ready to get into. All I’m hoping is that Tom Holland continues to voice Peter Parker, and we finally get the MCU’s interpretation of Parker’s transformation. We got sneak peaks: an extended trailer for Hawkeye (a week and a half to go, I’m really starting to think this show will be high up on my ranking of the Marvel shows so far), Ms Marvel, Moonknight, She-Hulk (I’m incredibly fascinated by this story) and Secret Invasion.

With Marvel, I think it can be argued that the anticipation is starting to wear off, not because ideas are becoming unoriginal and ridiculous, but because we’re getting so much so quickly. There was something thrillingly frustrating about the wait between Infinity War and Endgame, that we had no content at all in between, it’s losing it’s charm now we have something new almost every fortnight. While I’ll complain like a British person is renowned for, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t still dying to watch every single one of these projects, to immerse myself in the universe I love so much as often as I can. To find comfort in cinema, to understand truly why Disney is so successful, to watch the characters I love and have grown up with once again.
